Lady Madonna and Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds

Beatles. The Beatles. Probably the best band ever. The groupe was formed in 1959 in Liverpool. Paul McCartney, John Lennon, Ringo Starr and George Harrison. Their songs are catchy and cool, but they are also full of metaphores and hidden messages. One must read between the lines. My favourite hobby.

Lady Madonna, a lively song. The idea came from a magazine. The headline was "Mountain Madonna", and the text was about an African woman and her children. On the picture she was breastfeeding her little baby. Paul was wondering how she managed to feed her children; "Baby at your breast, wonder how you manage to feed the rest". In the making of the song Paul decided to see the big picture. He was no longer concentration on the African woman, but on all women. "Lady Madonna, children at your feet, wonder how you manage to make ends meet". The stanzas "Friday night" and "Tuesday afternoon" makes me think of prostitution, but thats just a wild guess. And I will probably never get the answer.

Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. First I will tell you about the John Lennon version of the song. His kid Julian came home from kindergarden one day. He brought a drawing that he wanted John to see. A girl, the sky and some stars. "It's Lucy in the sky with diamonds!" John had always been facinated by Alice in Wonderland, and poof, he made Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. Yeah right...

My theory(like many others before me) is that the song is like a code. "Lucy Sky Diamonds", doesn't that look like a code for LSD? Maybe a coincidence, but I don't think so. The text seems to refer to hallucinations like: "With tangerine trees and marmalade skies" and "Rocking horse people eat marshmallow pie". Also the stanza "Climb in the back with your head in the clouds and you're gone"seems like a result of crazy LSD intoxication.

What do you think?

  1. you're right, surely the best band ever. We are still influenced by the beatles.

About Lucy in the sky with diamond, actually jhon lennon said he wrote this song looking a paint of his son julian, who was drawing a classmate (lucy, but i'm not sure) in a sky with diamond.
those were the beautiful '60 and the LSD abuse was common to everybody.
of course to write a song like this one, they needed to open the doors of their subconscious, and perceptions.

enjoy your LSD :-) Be careful
